ephemera

March 9 @ 10:00 am - March 10 @ 4:00 pm

Free

We are delighted to invite you to ephemera, a group exhibition of work created along the Suffolk Coast, using large format photography and the lost art of halftone letterpress printing. The core of this project has been communal work sessions held at the Mabel & Co Studio, with each day having a different focus in order to complete the many steps from photoshoot to print. All photographers used the same camera and each photograph was shot using only natural light. These similarities have highlighted the differences: the subject, the weather and the style of the photographer.Whilst halftone letterpress printing was the dominant photographic printing method for around 90 years, it largely died in the 1970s. It is a forgotten and neglected process and during the project we had to relearn the art of making and printing them. Now the prints have been gathered up and bound, large images printed and hung, ready for the exhibition at the studio this weekend. During the event we will have all the equipment used on display, together with a map of locations and photographers keen to talk about their work. We will also be offering the chance to get hands on, by printing your own halftone image. We do hope you will be able to join us to see the exhibition in person. More information can be found by clicking below, including a downloadable map with directions and behind the scenes images of the photoshoots along the Suffolk Coast.Ephemera Group Exhibition10am to 4pm9th & 10th March 2024Mabel & Co, Sudbourne Park, Orford, Suffolk, IP12 2AJ
