Biography/Details

Working from an old wheelwright's shop on an estate close to Orford, Mabel & Co is a designer maker studio focusing on weaving, letterpress printing & studio pottery.

Our studio is split into two areas, with the print room containing restored letterpress printing presses from 1860 to 1960. In the weaving area we have our rescued and restored Hattersley Domestic weaving loom, which came from an abandoned croft on the Isle of Lewis.

Alongside our studio is our shop, which used to be the estate's seed store and which we restored in 2023, following decades lying dormant. The shop is open every day, 10am to 4pm and shows the full range of letterpress printing, woven blankets and hand thrown studio pottery that we make.

During the open studios event in June we will have the printing press & weaving rooms open for view, along with examples of current and previous work, in addition to displays of the photographic and bookbinding equipment we use.

We run courses from our studio throughout the year on letterpress printing, bookbinding and film photography, including large format photography - please see our website for dates.

On our website you will find a map showing how to find us, as google maps does have a habit of sending people the wrong way.
