There is something about working with threads and fibres that is irresistible – their haptic qualities; the way they encourage an exploration of colour, texture, pattern and structure; the personal, social and cultural significance of their product and production.
Weave is at the foundation of my work, though my passion is for all things 'textile'. At my Suffolk Threads studio base, four looms are used to design and produce bespoke interior pieces and fashion accessories - everything from heavy woollen rugs to fine silk scarves. Natural fibres dominate my work, although there is always room for experimental yarns to enhance designs. The intention is always to create contemporary pieces using hand-made and traditional techniques.
Most recently I have qualified in basketry. Now willow and rush weaver is added to my portfolio - traditional and contemporary basketry, sculptural pieces and the occasional hat. In common with many basket makers, willow grower is an added; the only way to ensure access to a rainbow of rods to add subtle variations of colour to my work.
