Within my work, I aim to marry the qualities of handmade and reclaimed papers with the beauty of screen printing with its distinct, bold, flat colours to create a wistful portrayal of British wildlife.
You will often experience while walking in the Suffolk countryside, a subtle moment. Whether a fleeting movement in the grass, a privileged glimpse of a Barn Owl, a sighting of hares in flight or hankered down with watchful eyes. It is those quiet moments of the county's fauna that I attempt to translate into my drawings while capturing the character of my subjects.
My pen and ink drawings I rework many times to create bold, stylised drawings with strong forms and sinuous lines. I endeavour to make distinctive images in which the subject is the main component of the composition.
Frequently I combine my screen prints with handmade and reclaimed papers, working with these elements I like to explore how the paper surfaces break through the screen printing ink or traces of text appear. I find it fascinating how these details work in conjunction with my image. Currently, I am exploring reclaimed resources working with cutting paper, repurposing my discarded screen prints and assembling these pieces to embellish my final print work.
I studied professional practice in art and design at Colchester School of Art and achieved a BA (Hons) in Graphic design. During my studies, I was introduced to different techniques within printmaking, however, it was Screen printing that I was especially drawn to, as it worked so well with my drawing style and my wildlife subjects. I have continued to develop my print-making skills as a member of the Gainsborough print workshop.
My artworks have been exhibited in galleries such as The Ponds Gallery, Snape Maltings, Suffolk. The Bell Gallery, Bungay Suffolk. Sea Pictures, Clare Suffolk. Mannington Hall, Norwich. The Garage, Aldeburgh Suffolk and at the Norwich Print Fair.
My silkscreen prints are currently available from The Handmade Shop and Gallery in Bury St Edmunds and can also be found on my website: littlefoxpress.co.uk
