Born in Ipswich, Jo has lived in Brazil, the Midlands, the Northwest, Norfolk but has returned to live in Suffolk. She has painted throughout her life, influenced by these varied locations. Alongside painting, Jo also works as a psychotherapeutic counsellor.
She has exhibited in Norfolk and Suffolk, with her paintings being a commentary on her daily life. She is inspired by the natural and man-made beauty of East Anglia, especially its expanses of coast and waterways, which she explores whilst wild swimming. For Jo, colour radiates joy. She recreates both the myriad of colours found in the British country garden and the bold colours of architectural buildings, swathed in sunlight, that she has observed on her travels.
Using the powerful qualities of oils and acrylics, and the tranquil hues of watercolour, she translates inspiration from the Post-Impressionists and the Fauvist movement. Her paintings communicate a moment in time or a connection to a person, place or objects of significance. Her memories are reflected in her paintings which can be whimsical, ethereal and fun.
