After a BA at Hornsey College of Art London I've been working as a professional ceramicist for 35 years. I am known internationally for developing the ancient techniques of handbuilding and smoke firing into a contemporary art form through the exploration of abstract form and experimental firing techniques. My work has recently evolved into concept based installations concerned with time, location and sound.
My work is represented in museums and private collections around the world.
I am a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association, a selected member of the Crafts Index of Makers and an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
I also work as a writer and have published four books on contemporary and traditional Indian ceramics with A&C Black / Bloomsbury which have been translated into French and German.
