Although I studied BA (hons) Crafts 30 years ago at MMU, I have only returned to clay in the last few years. My work is inspired by the rich traditions and rituals I stumbled across as I travelled in Japan in 2023. The work I produce always references ritual, be it individual or with friends; through the conversations I hold with customers, I weave their ideas of routine, ritual and ceremony into my work, encouraging well-being wherever I can. Three values in particular are mindfully wedged and worked into the clay and resonate; joy, curiosity and abundance. Working mindfully, I recycle all my clay and create my own tools, solving problems creatively, even if it means deviating from traditional methods. People connecting with my work will hopefully feel the vibes that encourage them to pause, reflect and find presence, contributing to them being their best selves. From zen inspired mosspots, to daily bird feeders, morning lemon squeezers to meditative candlesticks, there is something for everyone. My hopes for 2025 are grasping opportunities to teach basic clay skills in Suffolk/Cambs based spaces. Watch this space...
