My paintings are inclined to be about the inner and outer world, and my mind often focusses on recollections of the past and I am haunted still by some of the images I have seen on TV and social media. My language is painting, there is something primal about it. In my latest work the mark making has become more spontaneous, there is no initial drawing, although I usually return to a painting and repaint, building up the marks with more layers of glazes or paint. The layering in the painting is about memory, life and painting time.
Each piece is a search beyond mere appearance, attempting to connect the vulnerability, fragility and impermanence of the individual with a sense of common and shared humanity. The process embraces both the familiar and the unexpected, and combines observation, memory and intuition. My aim is that each painting develops a visual presence that is independent of me so that the viewer can continue the search that I have initiated.

Practising Painter. Large and small scale oil paintings: drawings, portraits and landscapes. The paintings are layered and evoke simultanious attention to different spaces. They are peopled by intimacies and relationships suggestive of surface memories, enigmatic and defying resolution.
