Oils, watercolour and oil-pastel the medium, emerging themes
River, Sea, Land, Garden, Floral.
The action of painting and drawing for me is a connection between an inner sense of being and an outer experience. The activity, uses skills and perception practised over time and is a response to something seen and felt. The method and medium used is an integral part of the process, and contributes to the direction and focus, of the work; time, and place, thought and feeling all inform. It is a journey of discovery and in a sense remains open and incomplete, as the shells on the shore leave traces of the movement of the sea.
I have always drawn and painted with a love for colour, light and space. I paint outside responding to the dynamic movement and changes that present over a few hours or days. This can be followed by reflection and development of a series from the initial paintings and drawings. Several themes or categories emerge, land, sea, river, garden, and a series of watercolours, floral still-life that connect to personal history and memory.
I studied at St. Albans and Epsom Schools of Art followed by work in education and community arts. Moving to Devon I worked and trained in social care, supporting people and families with disabilities and managing support services.
More recently having moved to Suffolk the landscape and trees have become a focus suggesting a theme of journey.
