Biography/Details

After having been based in Cambridge for a number of years, I moved to Clare, Suffolk in early February, 2021. My interest in ceramics began as a teenager at St Christopher School, Letchworth where I was lucky enough to be taught by the very enthusiastic potter and teacher, Chile Eagar. The enthusiasm that Chile engendered in her students led me, a few years later, to attend a number of evening classes in Sydney, Australia before going on to complete a three year course in ceramics in Hobart, Tasmania in the mid-1980’s.

During numerous visits to the Middle East, I was inspired by the beautifully elegant forms of the ceramics, glasswork and metalwork and the wonderful glaze colours that are used in many Middle Eastern countries. These shapes and colours still influence much of the work I do today. I limit the decoration on most of my pots to the use of different glazes with the aim of allowing one to appreciate the shape of the pieces.

The majority of my work is done on the wheel and is functional. I use both porcelain and stoneware clays and also make a small range of ceramic jewellery.
