Dawn was a Chartered Planner for nearly 30 years, before having a career change into the world of Psychology and Mental Health within the NHS. She now combines those skills, reviewing the suitability of the design of public spaces and buildings for people with mental and physical disabilities. She also volunteers at a wonderful project, working with people with learning disabilities. She can also sometimes be found working in a lovely local art café near her home; she is truly embracing a portfolio career as she gets older!
Dawn has sketched and drawn from school age having loved the freedom she found in her Art ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level classes. Now in her 50s, she has only recently started painting classes and has been experimenting with a range of different mediums, particularly oils and watercolours to add to her pencil and pastel drawings. It is thanks to the support and encouragement of her painting teacher that she has been brave enough to start sharing some of her art for the first time.
Dawn draws and paints from the heart. Almost every drawing or painting she makes is of something she loves or feels a connection with, whether it’s a place, an animal, a beautiful reminder of something wonderful, or the great nature of outdoors. Her painting titles attempt to provide a written reflection of the subject or her connection with it, whether real or imagined.
