Beyond the Image Gallery, based at Thornham Walks near Eye, Suffolk, is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2005 by a group of photographers. The aim was to create a beautiful community space where art in all its formats could be enjoyed. Today Beyond the Image is run by Gallery Members, all volunteers, and hosts regular, themed, members’ exhibitions. The themes rotate quarterly and it’s fascinating to see how Gallery Members interpret each one.
The Gallery also has space for guest exhibitors, including the beautiful Flint Wall. Past guest exhibitors include Lee Acaster, British Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner in 2014, and Gillian Allard, 2017 Sky Arts Photographer of the Year. Guest exhibitors change regularly, and applications are welcome from artists working in all media, not just photography.
There’s plenty to do on the Thornham Estate, including 12 miles of woodland walks, artists' studios, including a potter, a cafe and childrens' playground. The estate is very dog friendly, including the cafe and gallery, so there really is something for the whole family.
