Weaverbyrd Cherrie Stevens recommends SOS!

Here is one member's experience of Suffolk Open Studios, our very own Weaverbyrd, textile artist Cherrie Stevens. Not only has she gained from being a member, she has kindly agreed to be join our Committee and become our new Treasurer! Here is what she has to say...

Weaving by Cherrie Stevens

"That time of the year is here again...... no not Christmas but time to renew the Suffolk Open Studios membership and start to think about the coming year of creating, exhibiting, opening the studio and teaching, pheww!
Looking back on the last 2 years of SOS membership what a difference it has made to my life..... for a start it has made me work... yep just get on with it... somebody said 'from quantity comes quality' and I still believe that to be true so... if I have a weaving idea/inspiration start work on it straight away even though I might have other works in progress. (I have 6 looms!)

Meeting other SOS members in Felixstowe has proved very supportive and now we have our own trail and the possibility of exhibiting together as well as trying to push forward art in Felixstowe, I feel I'm working in a more cohesive and co-operative environment.
Through having my studio open in June I've signed up lots of people for weaving tutorials and now teach about twice a month which keeps my own practice alive as well as the pleasure of introducing people to a creative expression of their own ideas.... I liken it to painting with yarn.

So... yes of course I'll be renewing my membership and looking forward to another year of creating and sharing as well as a month travelling in Burma enjoying the textiles and garnering inspiration .... all paid for by my teaching income.... thanks SOS!"
